What are the Three Treasures? Matthew attended Davidson College (just north of Charlotte) for his undergraduate education. Upon graduation he journeyed to Japan where he lived for six years, studying Aikido (attaining his black belt) and Shiatsu (his first encounter with the Meridian system of the body). After returning to the US, he enrolled at Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, CA where he earned his Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He then successfully tested for and received his Diplomate of Acupuncture from the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Matthew is licensed under the Laws of the State of North Carolina to practice Acupuncture and its adjunct therapies. He currently serves on the Executive Council of the North Carolina Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCAAOM). He is also a professional member of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM) and the National Center of Homeopathy (NCH).
The Three Treasures of our human being are Jing, Qi (pronounced 'chee') and Shen, which translate to Essence, Energy and Spirit, respectively. These Chinese medical concepts are strikingly similar to our Western paradigm of Body, Mind & Spirit. At Three Treasures Acupuncture we recognize that to achieve our highest quality of life each level must be addressed. Nutritional supplements and Chinese herbal medicines restore and support Jing. TCM Acupuncture regulates Qi. Constitutional homeopathy, Esoteric and Five Element acupuncture work profoundly with Shen.
